N-Sync 'Tearing up my heart' (1998)
This video is both performance and narrative based.
All of the memebers are wearing extremley similar clothing, their costumes are all matching in colour which is a very typical motif of a boyband.
Their image is also similar, same hair style and body.
There are alot of high angle shots some of the members are lying on the floor with a birdseye view shot making them look inferior to the audience like they are below their female audience and as though he is in pain becuase this woman is 'tearing up' his heart. This also emphasizes the 'love sick' narrative of the music.
They're are lots of meat shots of each band memeber and they all use similar hand gestures which relate to the lyrics like on 'i feel it too' they clutch their chests. They have a choreographed dance routine and they are in perfect time with one another which is a theme in their videos.
They are represented as fun loving lads who are very tight with each other, leaning on them like best friends. Spotlights are used alot, aswell as big empty spaces like unused car parks, it has no natural light it is fake and very Hollywood. This is another boyband motif and typical of N-Sync's style.
They each have equal close ups of their faces with a 'puppy dog' expression whilst singing about 'no matter what' they do they feel love sick.
The colouring in particular scenes is quite washed out like black and white which gives a nostalgic and romantisized feel.
In the opening sequence there are flashes of light on the faces of the band, this gives the idea of a modern up to date boyband along with an edgy look.
There are lots of quick cuts to different locations where the group are performing the very same routine.
